ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- More school records fell Thursday as Nazareth's men's and women's track and field teams assembled at RIT's Gordon Fieldhouse for the RIT Early Season Invitational.

No team scoring was kept, but four school records were broken -- two for the men and two for the women -- as the Golden Flyers continued to show significant progress.

Sophomore Taylor Pierson finished first in the long jump, narrowly missing her own school record with a leap of 5.50 meters (18 feet, 0 1/2 inches). That was just a half an inch short of her mark of 5.51 meters (18 feet, 1 inch) set at last season's ECAC meet.

Pierson also eclipsed her five-day-old record in the 60-meter dash as she finished second with a time of 8.18 seconds, one tick faster than the preliminary time of 8.19 she posted last week at Brockport.

The pole vault record held by junior Sibongile Chisi also lasted for less than a week as she placed third Thursday by clearing 3.05 meters (10 feet) to surpass the 3.00 meters (9 feet, 10 inches) she cleared last Saturday at Brockport. Chisi also finished sixth in the 60-meter dash (8.39 seconds) and seventh in the 200-meter dash (28.02 seconds). Sophomore Blair Meeson finished seventh in the 3,000-meter run (11:56.80).

In the men's meet, sophomore Luis Rivera shattered his own school record yet again in the 35-pound weight throw as he reached a distance of 15.37 meters (50 feet, 5 1/4 inches), nearly four inches farther than his toss of 47 feet, 5 1/2 inches set last week at Brockport. Thursday's toss was good for a second-place finish. Sophomore Brandon Vuolo finished eighth in the same event with a distance of 13.05 meters (42 feet, 9 3/4 inches) and placed fourth in the shot put with a distance of 12.47 meters (40 feet, 11 inches).

Freshman Richardson Pierre also set a school record in the long jump with a fourth-place leap of 6.56 meters (21 feet, 1 1/4 inches). He also finished 12th in the 200-meter dash with a time fo 24.45 seconds.
