Nazareth falls to Washington & Jefferson, 4-1

Golden Flyers finish season with 4-14 record

WASHINGTON, PA -- Washington and Jefferson defeated visiting Nazareth 4-1 in an Empire 8 field hockey game on Saturday. Senior Jordan Ritchie scored her fifth goal of the season in the 56th minute to trim the Golden Flyers' deficit to three goals. The Presidents scored three goals in the first half and another 14 minutes into the second half to take control of the game.

With the loss, Nazareth finishes the season 4-14 overall and 2-5 in conference games. Washington & Jefferson close the season with a 13-6 overall record and a 3-4 Empire 8 record.

Ritchie's goal was at the 55:48 mark. She scored following a scrum in front of the Presidents' net. Senior Grace Crowell and junior Sibongile Chisi also recorded a shot on goal during the game.

Catherine Beaudoin, the Presidents' leading scorer, tallied three goals to give her 14 on the season. It was her first-career hat-trick and she is now tied for seventh all-time in goals for Washington & Jefferson. Beaudoin's first goal was 10:56 into the contest as she scored on a high back-handed attempt over Nazareth goalie Shannon Winney. Lauren Brown scored her third goal of the season 2:41 later on a shot in from the 15-yard line.

Beaudoin scored her second goal 1:12 before the end of the first half, then scored again 13:38 into the second stanza. Beaudoin's goal in the 34th minute was on a penalty corner opportunity. Beaudoin's third goal was also unassisted as she scored off a rebound.

Washington & Jefferson finished with an 18-5 advantage in shots and a 6-5 edge in penalty corners. Winney started the game and played the first half. She was credited with three saves. Freshman Mary Greco played the second half and recorded seven saves.
