ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting Hobart scored three goals in each half Tuesday at Nazareth to pull away for a 6-2 men's soccer victory over the Golden Flyers in a non-conference game.
Freshman Charlie Kelly scored three goals and added an assist for the Statesmen, who improved to 7-4-1 overall. Nazareth dropped its third straight and slipped to 4-7 overall.
In addition to Kelly, junior Bernard Abagali scored twice and added an assist and freshman Josh Vendetta also scored for the Statesmen, who never trailed. For Nazareth, freshmen
Lucas Bennett and
Alessio DeMichele each netted his first career goal.
Each team generated multiple scoring opportunities with Hobart also hitting the crossbar four times and Nazareth twice, including a chance by senior
Scott Duarte less than 30 seconds into the game.
Abagali scored first in the fourth minute as he capitalized on a Nazareth defensive mistake to collect a loose ball for an unassisted tally. Bennett tied the score for Nazareth in the 18th minute as he converted a pass from senior
Jason Renfro, who gained credit for his third assist of the season.
Kelly and Abagali each scored for Hobart before the first half ended and each assisted the other.
Nazareth closed to within 3-2 early in the second half as DeMichele scored following a scramble in front of Hobart keeper Mike Lucas.
Hobart then collected three more goals in a six-minute stretch. Vendetta and Kelly each scored unassisted, then Kelly added his third goal of the game and team-best ninth of the season for the Statesmen to complete the scoring.
Lucas was credited with one save in nearly 69 minutes of action for Hobart. Sophomore Tyler Serafine made two saves over the final 21 minutes. Junior

The Golden Flyers play again at home Saturday against Houghton at 3 p.m.
