Ithaca edges Nazareth in field hockey, 2-1

Golden Flyers visit Wells Sunday

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting Ithaca scored a pair of first-half goals Saturday and held on for a 2-1 field hockey victory over Nazareth in an Empire 8 Conference game on the Golden Flyers' artificial turf field.

Ithaca boosted its overall record to 7-3 and evened its conference mark at 2-2. The Golden Flyers dropped to 3-6 overall and 2-2 in the E8.

In an evenly played match, Ithaca got goals from Danielle Coiro and Katie Kennedy in the first half to take an early lead. Kennedy's goal, off an assist from Andrea Pace, came with just :41 left in the half.

Nazareth battled back and cut the lead in half with less than seven minutes to play as senior Jordan Ritchie scored unassisted for her fourth goal of the season. The Golden Flyers managed one shot in the closing minutes, but that bid by sophomore Maggie Muzio went wide of the goal.

Nazareth generated 14 shots to Ithaca's 13 and had seven penalty corners to Ithaca's five. Freshman Mary Greco played all 70 minutes in goal for Nazareth and had six saves. Sophomore Megan Paris was credited with a defensive save.

Nazareth is back in action Sunday for a non-conference game at Wells at 12 p.m. The Golden Flyers also are home Wednesday to play Houghton at 6 p.m.
