GENEVA, N.Y. -- Taylor Cappello scored three goals and Margaret McConnell added two goals Wednesday for 11th-ranked William Smith as the Herons scored a 7-0 victory over visiting Nazareth in a non-conference field hockey match.
The Herons scored three times in the first half and four times in the second to improve to 13-3 overall. Nazareth dropped its seventh straight game and fell to 4-13 overall. The Golden Flyers close out their season Saturday with an Empire 8 Conference road game at Washington & Jefferson at 1 p.m.
Cappello scored the first two goals of the game and Alessandra Patrizio also scored to give the Herons a commanding lead in the first half. McConnell's first goal came just :52 into the second half. She scored again with less than six minutes left. In between, the Herons got goals from Cappello -- her team-leading 14th -- and Sarah Tompson.
William Smith had a whopping 34-4 advantage in shots and an 18-4 edge in penalty corners. Seniors

Sarah Wazenkewitz each had two shots. Senior
Hannah Weitzel had three defensive saves. Junior
Shannon Winney was in goal for Nazareth for all 70 minutes and had 15 saves.
