Stevens downs Nazareth, 4-2

ROCHESTER, NY - Visiting Stevens Institute of Technology defeated Nazareth 4-2 in the Golden Flyers final home field hockey game of the season.  With today's loss the Golden Flyers fall to 4-10 overall and 2-4 in the conference.  Stevens remains undefeated in the Empire 8 with a 6-0 record and improve to 10-5 overall.

Stevens' Marguerite Chavez had a game high two goals and one assist in the win.  She scored early deflecting a shot from Erin Silverstri into the upper corner of the goal.  Nolie Prouty put the Ducks up by two deflecting a shot past Nazareth's goalie from Rachel Chavez on a penalty corner at 18:15. 

The Golden Flyers answered back scoring on a penalty corner of their own at 32:53 to make the score 2-1.  Maggie Muzio scored off assists from Haley Potter and Kailee Coleman

Nazareth scored againt just 1:07 into the second half to tie the score 2-2.  Magill Woodruff swept the ball in the back of the cage off a centering pass from Cathy Stahl.  The Ducks fired back scoring two unanswered goals to take home the 4-2 win.  Grace Ridge and Marguerite Chavez scored the final two goals for Stevens.

The Ducks out-shot Nazareth 24-13 and had an 18-5 advantage in penalty corners.  Emily Stuckeborg made six saves for Stevens while Mary Greco had 13 saves in 65:39 for Nazareth.  Shannon Winney finished the remaining 4:31 in goal for the Golden Flyers but was not challenged.  Senior Hannah Weitzel was also credited with a defensive save for Nazareth.

Prior to today's game, Nazareth's six seniors; Grace Crowell, Haley Potter, Cailin Huggins, Jordan Ritchie, Hannah Weitzel, and Sarah Wazenkewitz   were honored in their final home game of their collegiate careers.

The Golden Flyers finish up their 2013 season on the road with four straight away games.  They travel to Oswego on Wednesday, October 23 for a 4 pm non-conference game.
