Fisher outscores Nazareth, 4-1

Golden Flyers host St. Lawrence Friday at 4 p.m.

PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Host St. John Fisher scored the first three goals of the game Tuesday to build a commanding advantage and the Cardinals went on to defeat Nazareth, 4-1, in an Empire 8 Conference field hockey match at Growney Stadium.

The loss dropped Nazareth to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in the Empire 8. Fisher improved to 7-7 overall and 3-2 in conference games.

Fisher outshot Nazareth 17-4 in the first half to dominate the action and got goals from Bailee Barrett and Marissa Vedella to take control. The Cardinals added a third goal just :24 into the second half to extend their lead to 3-0.

Nazareth got on the scoreboard in the 48th minute when junior Sibongile Chisi scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season off an assist from senior Haley Potter. Fisher scored its fourth goal six minutes later.

Nazareth had additional chances in the second half as the Golden Flyers outshot the Cardinals 10-5 and had 10 penalty corners. Senior Sarah Wazenkewitz had two good chances, including a penalty stroke opportunity in the 38th minute that was saved by Fisher goalie Danielle Famolaro. Fisher's Stacie Skidmore also made a defensive save on another shot attempt by Wazenkewitz.

Famolaro finished with three saves while freshman Mary Greco had 13 saves for Nazareth.

Nazareth is home for two games this weekend. The Golden Flyers host St. Lawrence in a non-conference game Friday at 4 p.m. and Stevens Sunday at 12 p.m. in an Empire 8 Conference game.
