Nazareth competes at RIT

Golden Flyers take three first-place finishes

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth's men's and women's track and field teams were in action on Saturday for the first time in five weeks as the Golden Flyers traveled to RIT for Tiger Invitational. Among the top performers, sophomore Hannah Brackley and freshman Taylor Pierson claimed first-place finishes in the women's meet while freshman Khiary Gayle had a first-place finish for the Golden Flyers in the men's meet.

In the men's meet, Gayle took first in the triple jump with a mark of 13.88 meters (45 feet, 6 1/2 inches). Gayle also was 10th in the 60-meter prelims with a time of 7.58 seconds. Senior Philip Schierer was fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.97, and junior Matt Fedrizzi added a fourth-place finish in the one-mile run with a time of 4:38.97.

Junior Jake Lafaver placed fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.98. Freshman Brandon Vuolo added a 10th-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 10.72 meters (35 feet, 2 inches).

Brackley placed first in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:23.99, and she also finished the 200-meter dash in third place with a time of 27.34. Pierson took first in the long jump with a mark of 5.41 meters (17 feet, nine inches). Pierson also finished fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.24 seconds and added an eighth-place finish in the 200 event with a time of 28.17.

Senior Kayla Murphy finished second in the 1000-meter run with a time of 3:28.37 while classmate Lauren Jamieson was fourth in the one-mile event with a time of 5:36.74. Senior Keaghlan Morrissey collected an eighth-place finish in the 400-meter dash (1:07.71) and 60-meter hurdles (10.97). Senior Kelsey Ryan and sophomore Michaela Gildemeyer also contributed eighth-place finishes. Ryan was eighth in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:32.84 while Gildemeyer placed eighth in the mile event with a time of 5:53.91.

The Golden Flyers are in action again on Friday, January 18th when Nazareth travels to Brockport to compete at the Golden Eagle Invitational.
