ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Sophomore Tori Ryan contributed a goal and an assist Saturday as visiting Nazareth scored twice in each half of a 4-1 Empire 8 women's soccer victory over Elmira.

Nazareth improved to 6-2-3 overall and 2-1-1 in the Empire 8 Conference. Elmira dropped to 3-6-1 overall and 2-2 in conference action.

Nazareth led 2-1 at halftime before opening things up in the second half by outshooting the Soaring Eagles 21-4 over the final 45 minutes. With the score tied at 1-1 late in the first half, freshman Katie Trainor netted her first career goal as she deflected in a pass from fellow freshman Mel Gettys. That came with just 28 seconds left in the half and gave the Golden Flyers the lead for good.

Nazareth had taken a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute as junior Olivia Derleth scored her fifth goal of the season off an assist from senior Christine Belding. The play developed when Belding crossed the ball from the right wing and Derleth one-timed a shot into the left corner.

Elmira tied the score in the 38th minute when Kelsey Kiel scored off a corner kick from the right side.

Nazareth added a pair of insurance goals in the second half. The first came when Ryan converted a penalty kick for her first career goal in the 51st minute. Nazareth scored again less than five minutes later as Ryan picked up the assist. She sent a pass into the box to senior Sarah Eichelberger, who was able to tap a shot past Elmira keeper Megan Lowe for her fifth goal of the season and 15th of her career.

Junior Abbie Carey played the first 70 minutes in goal for the Golden Flyers and had eight saves. Junior Bethany Novak finished up.

Nazareth is home Tuesday to take on the University of Rochester in a non-conference game at 4 p.m.
