HOBOKEN, N,J, -- Host Stevens scored the game-winning goal with less than two minutes to play in regulation Saturday as the Ducks defeated Nazareth in Empire 8 field hockey action, 4-3.
The Ducks improved to 7-4 overall and remained unbeaten in conference play at 4-0. Nazareth slipped to 1-8 overall and 0-5 in the Empire 8.
The Ducks' Dailyn Brook scored her seventh goal of the season with 1:56 left to provide the difference in the game. The goal thwarted a dramatic second-half rally by the Golden Flyers, who scored three times in an 11-minute span to tie the score at 3-3. Senior Kailee O'Hara scored two goals for the Golden Flyers and now has a team-best seven for the season.
Stevens had a 12-4 advantage in shots in the first half and grabbed a 2-0 lead on goals by Megan Traub and Marguerite Chavez. The Ducks made it 3-0 on Samantha Shiner's first goal of the season in the 48th minute.
Nazareth got on the board in the 54th minute as O'Hara netted her first goal of the game as she deflected in a pass from
Haley Potter. The Golden Flyers closed to within 3-2 eight minutes later as junior
Alexis Root scored her second goal of the season off a pass from
Tessa Knapp.
Nazareth completed its comeback in the 64th minute as O'Hara netted her second goal of the game off an assist from freshman
Cathy Stahl. The game-winner came just over four minutes later as Brook redirected a shot by Straub that eluded Nazareth goalie
Shannon Winney, who finished with 13 saves. Brook also finished with two assists for the Ducks.
Nazareth returns home to host Cortland Tuesday at 4 p.m.
