Nazareth edges Kenyon 4-3 in ot

ROCHESTER, NY - Freshmen Maggie Muzio scored her first career goal 8:12 into the first overtime period to give Nazareth College a 4-3 win over visiting Kenyon College.  It was the season opener for the Golden Flyers who are now 1-0 while Kenyon falls to 0-2.

Nazareth scored early in the opening half when Sarah Wazenkewitz scored off a Muzio assist at 3:36.  Wazenkewitz found the back of the net again on an unassisted goal at 39:50 to make the score 2-0. 

The Golden Flyers kept Kenyon scoreless until the second half when Rachel Hall scored the team's first goal of the season at 42:52. Jordan Ritchie answered back two minutes later with her first goal of the season off a penalty corner to put the Golden Flyers up 3-1.  

The visiting Ladies scored the next two goals at 49:12 and 62:03 to tie the game 3-3 and force the overtime period. 

Kenyon out-shot Nazareth 21-15 in regulation and 4-2 in overtime and had a commanding 16-7 advantage in penalty corners during the game.  Shannon Winney made 14 saves to earn the win for Nazareth while Alex Britt made eight stops for Kenyon. 

Nazareth is home again on Tuesday, September 5 at 7 p.m. for a non-conference game against the University of Rochester.
