ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth College Golden Flyers topped the St. Lawrence Saints in a 2-1 double overtime women's soccer victory on Saturday afternoon at Golden Flyer Stadium. This win lifts the Golden Flyers to 3-1-3 overall and drops the Saints to 4-1-1. The Saints came in to this match on a defensive high not allowing any goals for five consecutive games.

The game ended in the 107th minute as junior Olivia Derleth finished an opportunity off a corner kick by freshman Mel Gettys. The game winning goal was the third of the season for Derleth, and the first assist for Gettys.

Play throughout the first half was even between the Golden Flyers and the Saints with a strong physical battle at midfield. There were two exciting scoring opportunities for both teams. The first came in the 24th minute when Derleth fired a shot just shy of the far post. The second opportunity came from an offensive push by the Saints when a dangerous ball was played in to the box to create a scramble in front of the net. Nazareth senior Emily Van Gorder was there to clear the ball away from the open goal mouth.

In the second half, the Golden Flyers came out with renewed spirit and energy, earning a goal from sophomore Elizabeth Howell who was assisted by senior Sarah Eichelberger. The goal was the first of Howell's season. After receiving a pass from Eichelberger, Howell was able to beat St. Lawrence defender Hannah Calvelli allowing her to take a shot that flew past the shoulder of SLU goalkeeper Kelsey West and into the back of the net. Within five minutes of Nazareth's goal the Saints rallied when Stephanie Sayward slipped a shot past Golden Flyer goalkeeper Abbie Carey for her fifth goal of the season. Nazareth and St. Lawrence continued their physical battle through the remaining of the second half to carry both teams in to overtime.

Nazareth had advantages in shots (17-5) and corner kicks (6-3). Carey had four saves for Nazareth and West had six saves.

The Golden Flyers, winners of their last two, look to continue their winning streak as they visit the RIT Tigers on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
