PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth got a late second-half goal from senior Christine Belding Tuesday as the Golden Flyers battled to a 1-1 tie with St. John Fisher in the Empire 8 Conference women's soccer opener for both teams.

In the game, played at Fisher's Growney Stadium, Nazareth's record changed to 1-1-3 overall and 0-0-1 in conference play. Fisher is 2-0-2.

The game was scoreless through 86 minutes, then both goals were scored in just over a minute. Fisher struck first as Krista Pilla sent a long cross into the box that was deflected toward the goal. Golden Flyer goalkeeper Abbie Carey was forced to come up with a diving save, pushing the ball off the crossbar but to the feet of Alexandra Rohloff who fired into the empty cage.

Just 1:02 later, Belding scored her first goal of the season as she headed in a corner kick off the foot of sophomore Elizabeth Howell. Belding's goal forced 20 minutes of overtime, but neither team supplied any serious scoring threats with Fisher generating two shots to Nazareth's one.

Fisher finished with 16 shots overall to Nazareth's 14. The Golden Flyers had a 9-7 advantage on corner kicks.  Carey made eight saves. Fisher's Sydney DeVitto had seven.

The tie snapped a 20-game Nazareth winning streak against the Cardinals, who have not beaten Nazareth in women's soccer since 1993. The Golden Flyers return to action Thursday for a non-conference road game at Geneseo at 4 p.m. The Golden Flyers are home again Saturday to play St. Lawrence at 3 p.m.
