ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth outplayed visiting Fredonia in a 3-1 men's soccer victory Tuesday afternoon in the Golden Flyer Stadium. The Golden Flyers improved their record to 4-0-0 with the victory and the Blue Devils fell to 0-6-0.

Play was even in the first 25 minutes of the game with Fredonia having the best scoring opportunity as senior Akwasi Owusu ripped a shot off the Nazareth goalpost in the 13th minute.

Less than five minutes later the Golden Flyers powered their way down the field to earn a goal from senior defender Jimmy Gaffney, assisted by juniors Luke Elston and Ryan Foley. The goal was the first of the season for Gaffney, and assist number three for Elston and four for Foley. Finding their rhythm, Nazareth's second goal of the game came four minutes later from junior Simon Mounsdon, also recording his first goal of the 2012 season. The goal was unassisted. Striking again, the Golden Flyers recorded their third goal in the 38th minute. Goal number three was credited to Elston – his team-leading sixth of the season – and assisted by Foley.

On the defensive side, Nazareth goalkeeper #J.P. Horan# recorded six saves, improving his save percentage to .783.

The Fredonia Blue Devils took control of the last 20 minutes of the game, recording their first goal of the game in the 72nd minute from freshman Patrick Schuber and assisted by junior Jake Persons. Schuber snuck the ball past Nazareth's J.P. Horan during a scramble in front of the net, helping the Blue Devils cut the lead down to two goals.

The Golden Flyers look to improve their overall record this Saturday in their first Empire 8 Conference match against Utica. The game will be held at Nazareth College in the Golden Flyer Stadium at 12 p.m.
