Nazareth hosts ROC City Classic

Brackley and Polino highlight Flyers' performances

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Golden Flyers' men's and women's track and field teams hosted the inaugural Nazareth/ROC City Classic on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Hannah Brackley led the women's team with a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash (:59.92) and a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash (:27.17). Senior Dan Polino was the top individual for Nazareth in the men's meet. Polino finished second in the long jump with a mark of 6.37 meters. Also in the men's meet, the Golden Flyers' 4 x 100-meter relay team claimed first with a time of :44.28.

In addition to Brackley, senior Katie Wyant also competed in the 400-meter event, and she finished fourth with a time of 1:01.2.

In the 5000-meter run, Nazareth had three finishers in the top five places. Junior Kelsey Ryan took second with a time of 19:21.69, followed by senior Michelle Gillette in third with a time of 19:54.99, and junior Katie Mutter in fifth with a time of 20:04.28.

Senior Heather Irish finished sixth in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 32.34 meters. Junior Jessica Hogan also placed ninth in the hammer throw with a mark of 25.94 meters. Irish and Hogan also competed in the discus and shot put. In the discus, Irish finished seventh (27.42 meters) and Hogan was 18th. (15.01 meters). Hogan finished 13th (7.7 meters) and Irish was 14th (7.25 meters) in the shot put.

Junior Lauren Jamieson placed third in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:01.31. Savannah Boucher's first-place time of 4:52.16 broke the Nazareth Stadium record. Junior Candice Colosi finished the 1500 with a time of 5:32.48 for eighth place while sophomore Kirsten Schoenborn (5:35.91) and freshman Kassandra Lathrop (5:37.66) placed 10th and 12th, respectively.

In the 800-meter run, freshman Michaela Gildemeyer led Nazareth with a fifth-place finish with a time of 2:28.17. Sophomore Lauren Heitzhaus (2:34.34) and junior Kayla Murphy (2:35.60) placed 12th and 13th, respectively. Junior Keaghlan Morrissey was Nazareth's lone racer in the 400-meter hurdles, and she finished fifth with a time of 1:11.40.

Nazareth's 4 x 400-meter relay team was second with a time of 4:08.9. Oswego took first place with a time of 4:05.35.

In the men's meet, the Golden Flyers' 4 x 400 relay team finished in third place with a time of 3:28.1. Freshman Ryan Holowesko added a third-place finish in the javelin throw with a mark of 47.4 meters.

Sophomore Jake Lafaver was the top Nazareth finisher in the men's 400-meter dash. Lafaver placed fourth with a time of :51.11. Senior Philip Schierer finished in seventh place with a time of :52.00, followed by sophomore Zach Lafaver in 12th place with a time of :54.13. Sophomore David Chavez also competed in the event and placed 22nd with a time of :59.39.

Freshman Ira Griffin was the Golden Flyers' top finisher in the 100-meter dash. Griffin placed fourth with a time of :11.5 seconds. Sophomore Marcus Mersereau finished 29th with a time of :12.38.

Senior Peter Fekete and junior Josh Strough competed in the men's 5000-meter run. Fekete placed fifth with a time of 15:03.08 while Strough was 11th in 17:21.21. In the men's 1500-meter run, sophomore Matt Fedrizzi placed 11th with a time of 4:20.48. Senior Tim Rutan was Nazareth's top finisher in the men's 800-meter run. Rutan placed 10th overall with a time of 2:01.08. Fedrizzi also competed in the event and placed 19th with a time of 2:09.0

The Golden Flyers are in action again on April 14th when Nazareth travels to the University of Rochester for the Alumni Invitational.
