Nazareth swept by Ithaca

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting Ithaca swept Nazareth in an Empire 8 Conference softball doubleheader Sunday as sophomore Sydney Folk hit home runs in each game to assist the Bombers to 7-1 and 5-1 victories.

Ithaca improved to 16-10 overall and remained unbeaten in E8 games at 8-0. Nazareth slipped to 7-21 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

In the first game, Folk blasted a two-run homer in the first inning and the Bombers were in front the rest of the way. They added two more runs in the fourth and seventh innings and another run in the fifth. Rachel Dell'Orto also hit a two-run homer for Bombers.

Nazareth scored its only run in the sixth after Liz Toner walked and moved to second on a single by Sarah Cipperly, who had two of the Golden Flyers' six hits. After a passed ball, Toner scored on an infield single by Casey Mathers.

Kelly Kocher pitched for Nazareth and gave up nine hits and seven runs while striking out seven. Sam Bender was the winning pitcher for Ithaca after tossing five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts.

In the second game, Nazareth took a 1-0 lead in the third inning after Shauna Bardanis singled to open the inning. She advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Meg DeMario and scored on a double by Nicole Bayona.

Ithaca rallied for the tying run in the fourth and added three more runs in the sixth, highlighted by a lead-off home run by Folk. The Bombers added another run in the seventh on an RBI single by Julianne Vincent.

Jillian Olmstead was the winning pitcher for Ithaca after tossing four innings of scoreless relief with five strikeouts. Mathers was the losing pitcher for Nazareth, yielding 12 hits, five runs and striking out three.

Nazareth returns to action Thursday for a non-conference doubleheader at Oswego starting at 3:30 p.m.
