ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting RIT netted the game-winning goal with 33 seconds left in regulation Wednesday as the Tigers held off Nazareth in a non-conference women's lacrosse match, 15-14.

RIT's Tina Podrasky scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Shelby Vakiener to provide the margin of victory for the Tigers. Nazareth had a chance to tie the score in the closing seconds, but a free-position attempt by sophomore Amy McIntosh sailed over the goal.

Juniors Alyssa Johnston and Megan Cregan scored six and five goals respectively for the Golden Flyers. Junior Erinn Wood had four assists. Vakiener had six goals and three assists and Rebecca Lampson added five goals for RIT. Naareth dropped to 4-6 overall, while RIT improved to 5-4.

RIT held a seemingly safe 9-4 advantage following a goal by Marlee Vlassis with 5:18 left in the first half. Vakiener scored four of her goals and assisted on two others during the Tigers' early scoring run. Nazareth, however, scored five of the next six goals before the first half ended to close within 10-9 at the break. Johnston scored twice, then Cregan scored off a pass from Leah Cronister. McIntosh followed with an unassisted goal to bring Nazareth to within 9-8. A goal by Lampson interrupted the string for RIT, before Cronister closed out the first-half scoring with an unassisted goal with :12 left.

The game was close the rest of the way, but Nazareth didn't take the lead again until Cregan scored her fifth goal of the game, on a free-position shot, to make it 13-12 Nazareth with 7:19 left. A goal by RIT's Loren Azlein tied the score again, but Nazareth regained the lead on a free-position goal by junior Kayleigh Pearson with 4:59 to go. 

Vakiener's sixth goal of the game and 43rd of the season tied the score again at 14-14 to set the stage for Podrasky's game-winner, which was her first goal of the game and seventh of the season.

Nazareth had advantages in shots (41-26) and ground balls (19-14). RIT won 17 draw controls to 14 for Nazareth. Cronister had four ground balls and five caused turnovers for Nazareth. Sophomore Tara Prosak played the first 25 minutes in goal for Nazareth and made two saves. Junior Shelby Robinson played the rest of the way and had six saves. Katelyn Crane made 13 saves for the Tigers.

Wednesday's game also served as a fundraising event as the two teams raised -- through admission and t-shirt sales -- more than $1,000 for the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester.

Nazareth resumes its Empire 8 Conference schedule Saturday at home against Elmira at 3 p.m.
