ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting Cortland banged out 26 hits in two games Tuesday and went on to record a non-conference doubleheader sweep of Nazareth in softball with 13-7 and 11-2 victories.

Cortland improved to 12-4 overall with the sweep. Nazareth dropped to 2-10 overall.

The Red Dragons had 10 hits in the first game, including a pair of home runs by Lorraine Stoddard, who had three hits overall and seven runs batted in. Sophomore Briana Barca also homered for Cortland.

Nazareth led 3-0 in the first inning as senior Casey Mathers stroked a two-run double and later scored on a single by Brittany Patenaude. Stoddard's first of three home runs on the day got two runs back for Cortland in the third. The Red Dragons added six more runs in the fourth off Nazareth starter Kelly Kocher highlighted by a three-run blast from Stoddard.

Nazareth closed to within 8-7 with four more runs in the fifth inning. Sophomore Sarah Cipperly hit a two-run homer to left field for Nazareth's first round-tripper of the season. Singles by Mathers, Sophia Rhoades, Patenaude and Shannon Dowling followed, accounting for two more runs.

Cortland broke the game open with four more runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh. Lyndsay Rowell was the winning pitcher for Cortland. Kocher took the loss after allowing 10 hits, walking six and striking out six.

Cipperly, Mathers, Rhoades and Patenaude each had two hits for the Golden Flyers, who had nine in the game.

Cortland dominated game two by scoring eight runs in the first three innings, including a two-run homer by Stoddard in the first inning and a three-run blast by Lucia Meola in the second.

Nazareth had seven hits overall and scored both of its runs in the third inning. Singles by Meg DeMario and Dowling were followed by a walk to Mathers to load the bases. Run-scoring singles by Rhoades and Patenaude gave the Golden Flyers their only two runs.

Freshman Corrin Spallone started for Nazareth and yielded six runs in an inning and a third. Mathers pitched the rest of the game and had seven strikeouts.
