LEXINGTON, Va. -- Nazareth opened its outdoor track and field season Friday and Saturday as the Golden Flyers competed at the VMI-W&L Track and Field Carnival.
No team scoring was kept, but Nazareth turned in several top performances, including a third-place finish by senior #Pete Fekete# in the 10,000-meter run (34:23.74). Other solid efforts for the men's team included a fifth place for sophomore #Jake Lafaver# in the 400-meter dash (:50.47), a 12th-place for junior #Phil Schierer# in the same event (:52.13) and a sixth-place finish in the 4 x 800-meter relay for the foursome of #Jake Lafaver#, #Matt Fedrizzi#, Schierer and #Tim Rutan# (8:37.86).
In the women's meet, freshman #
Hannah Brackley# ran well in her firrst meet. She finished fifth in the 400-meter dash (:60.80) and was followed by junior #
Katie Wyant#, who finished seventh (:62.00). Brackley and Wyant also ran in the 4 x 400-meter relay that finished fourth in 4:10.28. Freshman #
Michaela Gildemeyer# and sophomore #
Lauren Heitzhaus# also competed.
Gildemeyer also finished eighth in the 800-meter run (2:25.59) and was followed to the finish line by Heitzhaus in 11th place (2:28.99) and by junior #
Lauren Jamieson# in 18th place (2:31.18). Wyant, Jamieson, Heitzhaus and Gildemeyer combined to place second in the 4 x 800-meter relay (10:05.36).
