ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Western New England's Patrick White scored two of his game-high five goals in the fourth quarter Saturday as the Golden Bears broke away from a third-quarter tie to edge host Nazareth in a non-conference men's lacrosse game, 12-11.

Western New England improved to 2-1 overall, while Nazareth dropped to 2-3.

Nazareth battled back from a three-goal halftime deficit to tie the score at 9-9 after three quarters, but WNE's Joe Martin won the face-off to open the fourth quarter and White delivered the go-head goal just six seconds into the period.

Adam Knapton added an unassisted score nearly three minutes later to extended the Golden Bears' lead to 11-9. After Brian Wright scored for Nazareth with 9:34 left, White scored again five minutes later as WNE regained its two-goal cushion.

Wright scored again for Nazareth, his third goal of the game, with 1:16 left and Nazareth had chances in the closing minute, including a 30-second extra-man opportunity, but the Golden Flyers could capitalize in suffering the one-goal defeat.

Wright and sophomore attackman Collin Clark each had three goals and one assist for the Golden Flyers and senior #C.J. Estes# had two goals and two assists, including the 100th goal of his career. For WNE, White had an assist in addition to his five goals and Knapton scored twice.

Nazareth looked solid early in building a 3-1 first-quarter lead as Clark scored twice and Estes once. WNE, however, unleashed a second-quarter flurry during which the Golden Bears scored six times in a span of 2:14 and never trailed again. The first three goals -- by Knapton, long-stick Trevor Scott and White -- came in a stretch of just :18 and put WNE ahead for the first time at 4-3. Quick strikes by Owen Caruso, White and face-off specialist Joe Martin followed to give the Golden Bears a seemingly safe 7-3 lead.

Estes scored his 10th goal of the season (and 100th of his career) prior to halftime to touch off a three-goal Nazareth scoring burst that closed the deficit to 7-6. Chris Peterson and Wright each scored during the mini-run. Nazareth also got third-period scores from sophomore Trevar Haefele, freshman Kyle Fanning and Clark to tie the score at 9-9 heading into the final quarter.

Western New England had a 41-31 edge in shots and a 31-19 advantage in ground balls. Martin won 16 of 26 faceoffs for the Golden Bears to enhance their time of possession. WNE goalie Brewster Knowlton had nine saves, while Nazareth's Tim Doyle had seven.

Nazareth is home again Wednesday for another non-conference game against Clarkson at 4 p.m.
