ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Seventh-ranked Nazareth swept Bard in three sets, 25-9, 25-20, 25-15 in the Golden Flyers first match of the United Volleyball Conference crossover, hosted by Nazareth College. Senior Billy Gimello (Hauppauge/Hauppage, NY) tallied a team-high eight kills for the Golden Flyers' balanced attack. Eight players recorded at least three kills for Nazareth.

Following the victory, the Golden Flyers improve to 16-5 overall and 6-2 in UVC matches. The raptors fall to 6-12 overall and 0-7 in conference matches after Saturday's loss.

The Golden Flyers took control of the match early in the first set by scoring the first seven points. Junior Robert Kraft (Southern Regional/Waretown, NJ) served for all seven of the points and had two service aces during the run. Nazareth amassed a hitting percentage of .533 and held Bard to -.200 to take command of the set.

In the second set, the Golden Flyers rallied from an early 3-2 deficit. Nazareth eventually stretched its lead to six points, 15-9, midwat through the set. Nazareth's hitting percentage slipped to .265 percent in the second set, however, the Golden Flyers continued to frustrate the Raptors by holding them to a percentage of .111.

In the third set, Nazareth returned to the dominance it showed in the first set as the Golden Flyers stretched their advantage to 11-4 in the first 15 points of the set. The Golden Flyers finished with a hitting percentage of .429 and held Bard to -.033 as they forced the Raptors into 10 hitting errors.

Sophomore Cole Hutter (Bishop Alemany/Shadow Hills, CA) and freshman Nick McDonagh (Lake Shore/Derby, NY) recorded six kills and five kills, respectively, for Nazareth's attack. Kraft, senior Dan Miranda (Sweet Home/Amherst, NY), and freshman Brody Cord (Del Oro/Loomis, CA) each tallied four kills. Senior Sam Guba (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake/Ballston Lake, NY) and freshman Luke Lawatsch (Penfield/Penfield, NY) added three kills apiece.

Senior EJ Wells-Spicer (Midlakes/Phelps, NY) accumulated a match-high 30 assists and eight digs. Defensively, the Golden Flyers finished with a 31-16 advantage in digs and a 14-4 advantage in total blocks. Miranda had four total blocks for Nazareth to lead the team.

Nick Chan amassed a match-high 17 kills for Bard as the Raptors' primary hitter. Henry Kasiske finished with 20 assists, and Brice Ormesher had six digs.

The Golden Flyers continue action in the UVC crossover with a 9 a.m. match against eighth-ranked Stevens and a 3:45 math against SUNYIT.
