ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Golden Flyers fell to the RIT Tigers Saturday afternoon in a non-conference women's basketball game, 67-45. The loss brings Nazareth to 1-5 overall and RIT to 1-2 overall. Saturday's game was the third and final game to wrap up the 20th annual Wendy's Classic.
Play in the first half was close as RIT led by one, 29-28, at the end of the half. The Tigers came out in the second half with an eight-point scoring run to give them a comfortable lead, 37-28. The Golden Flyers were not able to recover after that.
RIT's lead continued to grow as Leslie Haven scored 10 of her 14 points and Kayla Wheeler scored nine of her 15 in the second half alone.
For Nazareth,
Maria Allocco scored a total of seven points and earned 15 total rebounds. Teammate
Megan Morrison contributed a team-high nine points for the Golden Flyers. Freshman
Lindsey Kelly picked up two quick fouls and played just 16 minutes overall, but was Nazareth's representative on the all-tournament team.
Nazareth struggled shooting the ball most of the game, particularly in the second half, when the Golden Flyers made just 5 of 31 shots, including 1 for 16 from three-point range. RIT, meanwhile, made 14 of 28 second-half shots to pull away.
Nazareth is on the road Tuesday as they play Wells for a nonconference game at 5 p.m.
