ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Nazareth men's basketball fell to the University of Rochester Tuesday night in a non-conference match at Rochester. The loss drops the Golden Flyers to 2-1 overall and lifts the Yellow Jackets to 3-0 overall. Both teams came into the match undefeated after winning their first two games of the season.
The first half of play started with an 11-0 run by the UR Yellow Jackets, until Nazareth was able to find their rhythm and answered with nine points to close the gap within two. Rochester maintained their lead with a shooting percentage of 64 from the field and shooting 50 percent from the arc. Rochester came out strong in the second half, improving their field goal percentage to 64 percent, shooting 12-20 (60%) from the arc, and shooting 91 percent from the free throw line. On the defensive side, Rochester forced Nazareth into thirteen turnovers and earned six steals. For Nazareth, the Golden Flyers finished the game with a 43 percent shooting percentage and shooting 73 percent from the free throw line. Defensively, Nazareth forced eleven turnovers and earned five steals.
Top scorers for Nazareth included junior
Jack Giles with a total of 13 points, Mills with twelve points and
Brad Ford with 16. Ford also earned the team high in rebounds, earning a total of eight. On Rochester's side, John DiBartolomeo shot for 23 points and runners up were Tyler Seidman and Nate Vernon with twelve points apiece. On the defense, Rob Reid tied Ford for a total of eight rebounds.
Nazareth looks to improve their record as they travel to Buffalo State this Saturday night at 7 p.m.
