HAMILTON, N.Y. -- The Nazareth women's and men's cross country teams were in action again on Saturday at the Hamilton Invitational. Senior
Kelsey Ryan placed eighth overall in the women's five-kilometer race with a time of 19:09. In the men's eight-kilometer race, senior
Pete Fekete was 28th overall with a time of 27:45.
Hamilton claimed first in the women's race with a total score of 33 points with five runners in the top 10 places. East Stroudsburg was second with 42 points, followed by Utica with 93 points. Nazareth's top five runners combined for a score of 112 points to edge Ithaca fourth place. The Bombers finished with 117 points. Eleven teams competed in the women's race.
Junior
Lauren Heitzhaus was the second Nazareth runner to finish in the women's race. Heitzhaus was 13th with a time of 19:25. Freshman
Shanna Swanson placed 20th with a time of 19:36 while senior
Kayla Murphy, and junior
Kayleigh Olive rounded out the Golden Flyers' top five. Murphy was 35th overall and finished the course in 20:20 while Olive placed 43rd overall with a time of 20:37.
Four seconds after Olive finished, freshman
Courtney Pitman crossed the line in 44th place. Sophomore
Michaela Gildemeyer was just two seconds behind Pitman and finished 46th overall. Freshman
Bridget Dunbar was the eighth runner to finish for Nazareth, and she finished 52nd (20:52). Junior
Bethany Althaus (21:04) and freshman
Blair Meeson (21:16) added 60th and 67th-place finishes, respectively.
In the men's meet, East Stroudsburg claimed the title with 22 points. Seven runners finished in the top 12 for East Stroudsburg. Ithaca combined for 55 points to finish second, followed by Hamilton with 74 points. The Golden Flyers combined to score 199 points to place sixth of 14 teams.
Following Fekete, junior
Matt Fedrizzi placed 55th overall with a time of 29:05. Senior
Josh Strough was 67th overall with a time of 29:33, followed by freshman
Patrick Neureuter who was 68th overall with a time of 29:33. Junior
Jake Lafaver placed 72nd and finished in 29:46 to round out the Nazareth runners.
Nazareth is in action again on October 20th when the Golden Flyers run in the NYSCTC meet, which Nazareth is hosting at Center Park in Fairport.
