ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Nazareth College Golden Flyers defeated the Wells College Express 3-1 Saturday afternoon in a field hockey match on Nazareth's Artificial Turf Field. After two consecutive wins this week the Golden Flyers' record jumps to 3-9 overall. The loss drops Wells to 3-8 overall.
The first half of play was dominated by the Golden Flyers with 12 shots to the Express' two and nine penalty corners to one. The first goal of the game came in the 25th minute of play as junior
Alexis Root knocked the ball past Wells' goalkeeper Kylie Nishioka for her third goal of the season. Root's goal was unassisted. About two minutes later the Golden Flyers worked their way down the field to earn their second goal of the game. Senior

The second half continued to be controlled by Nazareth. The Golden Flyers outshot the Express 8-5. In the 49th minute Wells' Courtney Bastian was able to sneak a goal past Nazareth goalkeeper
Shannon Winney to make the score 2-1. The Golden Flyers were able to answer with a goal from freshman
Maggie Muzio for her third of the season. Muzio's goal was assisted by senior Kailee O'Hara. The remaining 15 minutes of play continued to be tough and hard fought to keep the 3-1 lead.
On the defensive side of play, Winney ended the game with eight saves for the Golden Flyers to help earn their third win of the season.
Nazareth looks for another with in a match against St. Lawrence University Thursday, Oct. 11th at home on the Artificial Turf Field at 4 p.m.
