ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Freshman
Patrick Butigian used his head Wednesday to deliver his first career goal late in the second half as Nazareth defeated visiting Geneseo in a non-conference men's soccer match, 1-0, at Golden Flyer Stadium.
The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for the Golden Flyers, who improved to 6-4 overall. Geneseo dropped to 3-6-2 overall.
Geneseo had the majority of scoring opportunities in the first half with a 10-4 advantage in shots. Nazareth picked up the pace in the second half, but the game remained scoreless until the 75th minute. Junior
James Wheeler set up for a corner kick and sent a cross into the box, where Butigian used his head to redirect the ball inside the far post for the only goal of the game. Wheeler was credited with his fifth assist of the season.
Geneseo had additional chances over the final 10 minutes, but Nazareth sophomore #J.P. Horan# made seven saves for his second shutout of the season. Geneseo keeper Nick Voggel also had seven saves.
Nazareth is back on the road Saturday for an Empire 8 Conference game at Houghton at 4 p.m.
