FAIRPORT, N.Y. -- Senior
Kelsey Ryan was Nazareth top female finisher Saturday as the Golden Flyers' men's and women's cross country teams competed at the NYSCTC Championships at Center Park.
The Golden Flyers finished eighth in the team standings in both the men's and women's races. In the men's 8-kilometer race, Nazareth totaled 245 team points. Rochester won the team title with 48, followed closely by St. Lawrence (52), Ithaca (82) and Rensselaer (88). Other teams competing were Hamilton (145), Utica (164), Union (209), Nazareth (245), Cobleskill (268), RIT (278), St. John Fisher (320) and Alfred (390).
In the women's 6-kilometer race, St. Lawrence had seven of the top 11 finishers to easily take the team title with 23 points, Ithaca (88) was a distant second, followed by Rensselaer (92), Rochester (93), Hamilton (109), Utica (183), RIT (225), Nazareth (232), St. John Fisher (267), Cobleskill (286), Union (290) and Alfred (398).
In the men's race, senior
Pete Fekete finished in 17th place to pace the Golden Flyers with a time of 26:30.67. The finish earned Fekete honorable mention all-NYSCTC honors. St. Lawrence's Sam Rakoc won the race in 25:44.46, 10 seconds faster than runner-up Morgan Payne of Utica, who ran 25:54.73.
Also competing for Nazareth were junior
Matt Fedrizzi, who finished 63rd (27:59.47); freshman
Patrick Neureuter, who finished 92nd (28:46.49); senior
Josh Strough, who finished 100th (29:01.27); and junior
Jake Lafaver, who was 101st (29:07.43).
In the women's race, Ryan placed 40th in a field of 141 runners with a time of 24:42.26. Lauren Norton of Rochester won the race by a 15-second margin with a time of 22:18.02.
