ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Freshman
Cathy Stahl scored the game-winning goal less than four minutes into overtime Saturday to lift visiting Nazareth to a 4-3 victory over Hartwick in an Empire 8 Conference field hockey match.
The victory was the fifth in the last six games for the Golden Flyers, who improved to 6-10 overall and 2-5 in conference games. Hartwick dropped to 6-9 overall and 3-3 in the Empire 8.
Nazareth rallied from a 2-1 halftime deficit to score twice in the second half to force overtime. Senior Kailee O'Hara scored two more goals for the Golden Flyers and now has a team-best 12 goals on the season. Junior
Jordan Ritchie also scored for the Golden Flyers.
Nazareth dominated the overtime period with four shots to none for Hartwick. The winning goal came in the 74th minute as senior
Lindsey Smith delivered a centering pass to Stahl, who finished the play for her second goal of the season.
O'Hara opened the scoring for Nazareth in the 13th minute as she scored off a penalty corner. Hartwick answered with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Ritchie scored her fourth goal of the season less than six minutes into the period to tie the score at 2-2. Four minutes later, O'Hara scored again to enable Nazareth to regain the lead.
Hartwick forced overtime less than three minutes later as Kelsey Kimble scored her second goal of the game for the Hawks to knot the score at 3-3.
Sophomore
Shannon Winney had one save in goal for Nazareth. Megan Campbell had eight saves for Hartwick.
Nazareth returns to action Tuesday for a non-conference game against Oswego at 4:30 p.m.
