ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Senior Kailee O'Hara scored for Nazareth midway through the first half to trim the Golden Flyers' deficit to one goal. Cortland added two goals in the second half to defeat Nazareth 4-1 in a non-conference field hockey game on Tuesday afternoon.
Following the loss, the Golden Flyers drop to 1-9 overall. The Red Dragons even their overall record to 4-4 with the victory.
About 12 minutes into Tuesday's contest, Cortland's Erin Carrino broke the scoreless tie with an unassisted goal. The Red Dragons stretched their lead to two goals nine minutes later when Karly Vdoviak added an another unassisted score.
O'Hara's unassisted goal came with about 10 minutes to play in the first half. Nazareth's offense earned a penalty corner, which was taken by junior
Sarah Wazenkewitz. Moments after the corner, junior
Grace Crowell put a shot on goal that was saved by Cortland's Amanda Perricone. O'Hara collected the loose ball and slid it into Red Dragons' goal.
The Golden Flyers controlled the next five minutes of action with four shots and three penalty corners, but Nazareth was unable to find the equalizing goal. Perricone finished with three saves in a span of 13 seconds as she stopped shots by O'Hara, senior

Maggie Muzio. Knapp had another scoring opportunity at the end of the sequence but her shot was blocked by a Cortland defender.
Cortland used a two-goal surge in a span of 47 seconds to extend its lead to 4-1 with just under 30 minutes to play in regulation to pull away. Abbey Wentlent converted a penalty corner opportunity from Katie Barbagallo. On the fourth goal, Barbagallo was on the receiving end of a pass from Holly Flanigan.
The Red Dragons' stingy defense prevented the Golden Flyers from rallying. Cortland held Nazareth without a shot during the second half. The Golden Flyers had three penalty corners during the final 35 minutes, but were unable to get a shot on goal.
Sophomore
Shannon Winney finished with a game-high 11 saves for the Golden Flyers. Winney had two saves in the final five seconds of regulation to hold the Red Dragons at four goals. Perricone had eight saves for Cortland. The Red Dragons finished with a 22-10 advantage in total shots, including a 15-9 advantage in shots on goal. Cortland also finished with a 10-7 edge in corners.
The Golden Flyers travel to Morrisville State on Friday for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference game. Nazareth returns to host Wells on October 6th in another non-conference contest.
