St. John Fisher defeats Nazareth, 2-1

ROCHESTER, NY - Visiting St. John Fisher College defeated Nazareth 2-1 to snap a four game win streak by the Golden Flyers in an Empire 8 field hockey match-up.  St. John Fisher improved to 3-3 in the Empire 8, 5-9. 
Nazareth is now 1-4, 5-9.

Fisher out-shot Nazareth 5-4 in the first half and Marissa Vedella scored her first of two goals at 25:49 to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead that they held throughout the first half. She was assisted by Stacie Skidmore.

The Golden Flyers came out strong in the second half out-shooting the Cardinals 13-7.  Sarah Wazenkewitz scored on a penalty corner after deflecting a shot by Lindsey Smith at 52:40 to tie the game 1-1. 

The Cardinals quickly regained the lead when Vedella scored her second goal of the night off a scrum in front of the cage at 58:26 to put Fisher up 2-1.  Despite numerous scoring opportunities by Nazareth, the Cardinals were able to hang on for the win.

The Golden Flyers had a commanding 21-8 advantage in penalty corners including 15 in the second half. 

Shannon Winney had eight saves in goal for Nazareth and Danielle Famolaro stopped 12 for St. John Fisher.

Nazareth travels to Hartwick on October 20 for an 11 a.m. game before returning for its final two regular season games at home against Oswego on October 23 and Geneseo on October 30.
