PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Nazareth's men's and women's golf teams completed their fall schedules Monday at the Nazareth Invitational at Irondequoit Country Club. Nazareth's men's team finished in seventh place, while the women's team, due to a series of injuries, had just three competitors and was unable to post a team score.
Daemen rallied from a four-shot deficit to claim first place in the men's tournament with a two-day team score of 596. That was eight shots better than runner-up St. Lawrence (604). Roberts Wesleyan (613) was third, followed by Ottawa (631), Hobart (641), Clarkson (656) and Nazareth (659).
William Smith had the only complete team on the women's side and claimed the team title.
Sophomore
Dan Strack paced Nazareth with a 79 Monday for a two-day score of 154 to finished tied for ninth place individually. Freshman
David Studin was next with an 85 Monday for a 162 total and a tie for 21st place. Sophomore
Andrew Lund (170, tied for 32nd) and junior
Nick Polito (173, tied for 35th) also competed.
Jack Whelan of St. Lawrence was the top individual with scores of 68 and 71 for a 5-under-par total of 139. That was five strokes better than Daemen's Kyle Harman, who finished at even-par 144.
In the women's tournament, Sunday's first round was played at Monroe Golf Club before Monday's second round at Irondequoit. Freshman
Anouluck Chanthabandith had scores of 99 and 96 for a 195 total, good for second place overall. Freshman
Meaghan Porter was three strokes behind after rounds of 97 and 101 for a 198 total. Senior
Mindy Fowler (114-122 -- 236) also competed. Junior
Alyssa Moffat withdrew due to injury.
St. John Fisher's Katie Joslyn took medalist honors with consecutive scores of 90 for a total of 180 and a 15-stroke victory.
