Nazareth downs St. Lawrence, 3-1

ROCHESTER, NY - Nazareth defeated St. Lawrence 3-1 in a non-conference field hockey game to win its third straight game Thursday afternoon. With the win the Golden Flyers improve to 4-9, and St. Lawrence falls to 2-10.  The win was Nazareth's first-ever over the Saints, who had won eight previous meetings with the Golden Flyers.

Kailee O'Hara scored her 10th goal of the season to give the Golden Flyers a 1-0 lead just 14:00 into the first half.  She was assisted by Tessa Knapp

Sarah Wazenkewitz put Nazareth up 2-0 with a goal assisted by Lindsey Smith at 48:55.  Courtney Cartier put the Saints on the board with a goal at 62:04 to bring St. Lawrence within one, 2-1.  She was assisted by Grace O'Neil. 

Grace Crowell scored her first goal of the season just over a minute later to give Nazareth a two goal cushion and a 3-1 lead.  The Golden Flyers held on to take their third consecutive win.

Shannon Winney made four saves for Nazareth while St. Lawrence's Brady Cooper stopped nine.  Hannah Weitzel was also credited with a defensive save for the Golden Flyers after Winney came out to play the ball but was beat by a St. Lawrence attacker. 

Nazareth had a 10-7 advantage on penalty corners and a narrow 14-12 advantage on shots. 

The Golden Flyers are home again this Saturday at 1 p.m.
when they host Elmira.
