ITHACA, N.Y. -- Freshman Ira Griffin was named Runner of the Meet Saturday at the Empire 8 Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship at Ithaca as he won the 60-meter dash, placed third in the 200-meter dash and anchored Nazareth's winning 4 x 400-meter relay.

Nazareth finished fifth in the team standings with 42 points. Ithaca was first with 178, followed by Stevens (91), Utica (80), Alfred (54), Nazareth (42) and St. John Fisher (18).

Griffin won the 60 in 7.09 seconds, just missing his own school record of 7.03 set earlier this season at RIT. He set a school record in the 200 with a time of 23.09 seconds. In the relay, Nazareth posted a winning time of 3:29.27 with a foursome of Jake Lafaver, Phil Schierer, Dan Polino and Griffin.

Lafaver also placed third for Nazareth in the 400-meter dash with a time of :51.80. He was followed closely by Schierer, who was fourth in :52.04. Senior Peter Fekete also finished fourth for Nazareth in the 5,000-meter run (16:13.74).

In the women's meet, junior Katie Wyant broke her own school record in the 400-meter dash as she recorded a first-place finish for the Golden Flyers, who placed in a tie for third place in the team standings with 39 points.

Host Ithaca easily won the team title with 253 points. Utica (87) finished a distant second, followed by Nazareth and Stevens (39), Alfred (28) and St. John Fisher (17).

Wyant crossed the finish line in 61.81 seconds to win the 400, breaking the record of :61.94 seconds she set earlier this season at RIT. Wyant also earned a point for Nazareth in the 200-meter dash as she placed sixth in 28.24 seconds.

Graduate student Kristi Custer also excelled for the Golden Flyers as she won the triple jump with a leap of 10.85 meters (35 feet, 7 1/4 inches). Other top performances included junior Kelsey Ryan, who placed second in the 5,000-meter run in 19:53.41 and senior Katie Mutter, who was sixth in the same event (20:15.00). Freshman Michaela Gildemeyer finished sixth in the 800-meter run (2:30.17).
