HAMILTON, N.Y. -- The Nazareth women's and men's cross country teams kicked off their respective seasons at the Harry Lang Invitational Satuday. Junior
Kelsey Ryan finished the 4.2 km women's race 15th overall with a time of 18:19 to lead the women's team.
Freshman
Meleana Spera placed second for the Golden Flyers with a time of 19:22. Spera was followed by sophomores
Lauren Heitzhaus (19:54) and
Bethany Althaus (19:56) and junior
Candice Colosi (20:09) in 29th, 30th, and 31st place, respectively.
Senior
Katie Mutter finished sixth for the Golden Flyers and was followed by eight consecutive Nazareth runners. Mutter placed 36th overall with a time of 20:36, followed by freshman
Michaela Gildemeyer (20:47), senior
Michelle Gillette (21:24), freshman
Kassandra Lathrop (21:30), sophomore
Mary Losito (21:38), junior
Kayla Murphy (21:44), freshman
Nicole Greer (22:08), junior
Crista Johnson (22:12), and
Kirsten Schoenborn# (22:50).
In the men's 6.4 km meet, sophomore
Matt Fedrizzi and senior
Tim Rutan placed back-to-back in 28th and 29th place, respectively. Fedrizzi finished with a time of 23:40, which was 14 seconds ahead of Rutan.
Placing third for the Golden Flyers was junior
Josh Strough, who finished with a time of 24:52. Sophomore
Jake Lafaver placed 37th (25:33) while senior
Dan Polino rounded out Nazareth's top five in 40th place (26:25).
The Golden Flyers are in action again September 10th when they compete at the Hamilton Invitational.
