BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Host Brockport scored once in the first half and once in the second half to defeat Nazareth 2-0 in a non-conference field hockey game Tuesday afternoon. Freshman Sophia Rhoades amassed a game-high 13 saves for the Golden Flyers.

Following the loss, Nazareth drops to 2-6 overall. The Golden Eagles improve to 5-3 overall with the victory.

Brockport's Kelly-Ann Henry created several scoring opportunities and challenged the Golden Flyers' defense throughout much of the contest. Henry scored the opening goal of the game, 19:11 into the first half, after receiving a centering pass from Madison Buckley. Buckley's pass followed a penalty corner opportunity. Henry's goal was the fourth of the season.

Nazareth's defense prevented the Golden Eagles from expanding their lead until the final six minutes of regulation. Henry set up Brockport's insurance goal by sending a short pass inside to Megan Usher, who scored from about five yards away for her first goal of the season. Nazareth weathered 20 additional shots, including eight more shots from Henry, to stay in the contest. The Golden Eagles finished with a 22-18 advantage in shots.

Junior Kailee O'Hara and sophomore Alexis Root had several scoring chances and combined for most of the Golden Flyers' shots. O'Hara finished with five total shots, all of them on goal. Root tallied six shots, with three of them requiring a save by Brockport goalie Kasey Schreiner. Senior Nina Fargnoli also had two shots, both of which were saved by Schreiner. Schreiner finished the contest with 11 saves.

The Golden Eagles finished with a 14-11 advantage in penalty corners, including a 10-4 advantage in the first half. It was a converted penalty corner opportunity by Brockport that broke the scoreless tie.

Nazareth resumes its Empire 8 Conference schedule Saturday when the Golden Flyers travel to Utica. Nazareth will take on the Pioneers in an early 10:30 a.m. game.
