ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting Elmira scored the game's only goal with just over 10 minutes to play in regulation Saturday as the Soaring Eagles defeated Nazareth in an Empire 8 conference men's soccer match, 1-0.

Elmira remained unbeaten at 7-0 overall and 2-0 in E8 games. Nazareth lost by 1-0 shutout for the second match in a row and now stands at 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the Empire 8. Nazareth had beaten Elmira 11 straight times in men's soccer. It was the Soaring Eagles' first win over Nazareth since Oct. 24, 2000.

In an evenly contested match, the lone goal came from Elmira's Edward Michelson at 79:02 on a direct kick that resulted from a Nazareth foul. The shot came from about 25 yards out and beat Nazareth keeper Kyle Connolly in the upper left corner.

Nazareth had a 17-11 advantage in shots, including 10-4 in the second half. Connolly made six saves. Elmira's Jared Micheller had eight saves for his fifth shutout of the season. The Soaring Eagles have yielded only three goals in seven games.

Nazareth plays again Tuesday at Union in a non-conference game at 6 p.m.
