Nazareth blanked by St. Lawrence, 2-0

CANTON, N.Y. -- Host St. Lawrence scored a goal in each half Saturday in a non-conference soccer match against Nazareth and the Saints came away with a 2-0 victory at McAllaster Field.

Nazareth has managed to score just three goals in five games this season while yielding only five. The Golden Flyers dropped to 1-2-2 overall. St. Lawrence is 2-2-1. Nazareth hosts RIT Tuesday at 4 p.m. in a non-league game.

"We had a rough first half, but played better and generated more scoring chances in the second half," said Nazareth Coach Gail Mann.

Katherine Polido scored an unassisted goal in the 34th minute to give the Saints the only goal they needed. Brooke Hessney added her second goal of the season in the 59th minute.

Nazareth keeper Abbie Carey had eight saves while St. Lawrence's Abby van Geldern made five in recording the shutout.

Nazareth had 11 shots overall -- four by Sarah Eichelberger -- while St. Lawrence generated 17 shots and had a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.
