Ithaca comes from behind to defeat Nazareth, 4-3

ROCHESTER, NY - Ithaca College scored three second half goals and went on to win 4-3 over host Nazareth College in Empire 8 field hockey action Saturday afternoon.  Jessica Dillon scored her first goal of the season at 62:12 to tie the game 3-3 and less than two minutes later scored the game winner to give the Bombers their first win of the season.

Nazareth's Lindsey Smith scored just 7:54 into the game to give the Golden Flyers an early 1-0 lead.  Tessa Knapp scored her team best third goal of the season at 15:25 to give Nazareth the early 2-0 lead.   Kailee O'Hara assisted both of the goals for the Golden Flyers.   

Ithaca's Katie Kennedy put the Bombers on the scoreboard at 25:44 to make the score 2-1 after the first half. 

Sam English scored off a JulieAnne Butare assist just 3:53 into the second half to tie the score 2-2. 

Smith scored her second goal of the game to give Nazareth the lead again (3-2) at 50:38 after dribbling down the field and beating Ithaca keeper Kelly Singleton one-on-one.  Ithaca then rallied with back-to-back goals from Dillon in the final eight minutes.

Nazareth falls to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the Empire 8 conference, while Ithaca improves to 1-3, 1-0 in the conference. 

The Golden Flyers out-shot Ithaca 19-12 while Ithaca had the 13-9 edge in penalty corners.  Sophia Rhoades played 63 minutes in the goal for Nazareth recording five saves.  Shannon Winney finished the final seven minutes in goal but was never challenged to make a save.

Nazareth is on the road Sunday at fifth-ranked Skidmore for a 1 p.m. game before returning home on Wednesday to host Houghton College at 6 p.m.
