Golden Flyers compete at Hamilton Invitational

HAMILTON, N.Y. - The men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 2011 Hamilton College Short Course Cross Country Invitational this Saturday. The men's team placed seventh of eight teams, beating D'Youville College by a margin of 68 points. Senior Tim Rutan came in first for Nazareth (30th overall) with a time of 21:34.6.  The women's team finished in fifth place, overcoming St. John Fisher, Mohawk Valley Community College, and D'Youville College. Junior Kelsey Ryan was the first Golden Flyer from the women's team to finish with a time of 16:42.3 (17th overall).

Placing second for the men's team was sophomore Matt Fedrizzi in 38th placed overall with a time of 21:55.8. Following Fedrizzi was junior Josh Strough in 53rd place (22:47.0). Less than one minute later, sophomore Jake LaFaver crossed the finish line in 56th place with a time of 23:13.5. Finishing fifth for the Golden Flyers was senior Dan Polino. Polino placed 64th overall with a time of 24:04.1.

In the women's race, Ryan was followed by freshman Meleana Spera. Spera finished 28th overall in 17:16.8. Placing 31st overall was junior Kayleigh Olive with a time of 17:24.4. Olive was followed by sophomore Bethany Althaus in 33rd place (17:30.6). Finishing fifth for nazareth's women was sophomore Lauren Heitzhaus in 37th place overall (17:42.0). Junior Candice Colosi and freshman Michaela Gildemeyer placed 37th and 38th, respectively. Colosi's time was 17:50.8 and Gildemeyer finished in 17:57.0.

The Golden Flyers will compete at Roberts Wesleyan's Harvey Anderson Invitational on September 24th at 11 a.m.
