HOBOKEN, N.J. -- Third-seeded Ithaca raced to a 10-0 halftime lead and was never threatened in the second half Saturday as the Bombers defeated second-seeded Nazareth, 15-4, in a fist round game of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament for women's lacrosse.
Ithaca, now 11-5 overall, will play top-seeded and host Stevens Sunday at 1 p.m. for the E8 title. Stevens (14-3) defeated RIT, 15-6, in the other first-round matchup. Nazareth is 11-5 overall. The Golden Flyers came into the tournament following a two-week layoff. They defeated Ithaca, 18-9, in a regular-season game on April 22.
Saturday's game was all Ithaca as Nicole Borisenok scored three of her four goals in the first half as the Bombers surged to a 10-0 advantage. Ithaca also scored the first two goals of the second half to swell the lead to 12-0.
Nazareth's
Alyssa Johnston finally broke the shutout with an unassisted score with 21:31 left.
Leah Cronister,
Michelle Cook and
Amy McIntosh also scored in the second half for the Golden Flyers.
Borisenok also added an assist for Ithaca, which also got three goals from Tracy Rivas and two apiece from Nikki Dahl, Katie Hurley and Kim Armbruster.
Ithaca had a 31-14 edge in shots, including a 21-5 advantage in the first half. The Bombers also won 16 draw controls to Nazareth's five. Freshman goalie
