ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth seniors
Scott Castle and
Mitchel Frey represented the Golden Flyers as first-team selections on the Empire 8 Conference all-star team for men's lacrosse. The teams were chosen through voting by the league's nine head coaches.
Individual award winners -- Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year -- will be announced next week.
In addition to Castle and Frey, who were chosen at midfield and defense respectively, senior attackman
Joe Jacobs-Ferderbar and senior defenseman
Brian orr were selected to the second team. Senior attackman
Doug Milano-Johnson was Nazareth's representative as conference Sportman of the Year.
Castle, of Skaneateles, N.Y. and a graduate of Skaneateles High School, was named to the first team for the third year in a row after leading the Golden Flyers to a 10-5 overall record in 2011. He was the Golden Flyers' top-scoring midfielder in 2011 with 32 points on 22 goals and 10 assists.
Frey, of Terrace Park, Ohio and a graduate of Moeller High School, was a second-team all-conference pick in 2009 and an honorable mention chose in 2010. He started all 15 games for the Golden Flyers in 2011 and was the team leader in ground balls (52) and caused turnovers (29).
Jacobs-Ferderbar, of Orchard Park, N.Y. and a graduate of Orchard Park High School, leads the Golden Flyers in scoring with 44 points on 28 goals and 16 assists. He ranks sixth all-time at Nazareth in career scoring with 181 points, including 110 goals.
Orr, of Medford, Mass. and a graduate of Malden Catholic, also was a second-team all-conference selection in 2010. He started all 15 games in 2011 and picked up his first career goal. He also scooped up 32 ground balls and had 17 caused turnovers.
Milano-Johnson, of Pittsford, N.Y. and a graduate of Pittsford Sutherland, was named as Nazareth's representative on the 2011 Men's Lacrosse Sportsman of the Year Team. Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportsmen.
