Nazareth outscores Alfred, 16-5

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Freshman Amy McIntosh scored a career-high four goals and sophomore Alyssa Johnston had four goals and two assists Saturday as Nazareth defeated visiting Alfred in an Empire 8 Conference women's lacrosse game, 16-5.

The Golden Flyers improved to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The Saxons are 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the Empire 8.

Nazareth scored the first four goals of the game and never trailed. Sophomore Leah Cronister scored the first two goals off assists from Michelle Cook and Kayleigh Pearson respectively. Goals by McIntosh and Johnston followed.

After Alfred scored, freshman Kelsey McNaboe scored unassisted to make it 5-1 and McIntosh followed with her second goal of the half.

The Saxons scored the last goal of the first half and the first of the second to close within 6-3, but Nazareth then rattled off six straight goals to erase any comeback hopes. Johnston scored twice to trigger the scoring run, which was highighted by the first career goal for freshman Alex McFaddin. Cook, McIntosh and McNaboe also contributed goals during the run.

Nazareth added four more goals as Johnston, McNaboe, Cook and McIntosh closed out the scoring.

Freshman Tara Prosak made three saves in goal and sophomore Shelby Robinson had one. Nazareth had advantages in shots (40-15) and ground balls (38-24). Alfred had a 13-10 edge in draw controls.

Nazareth is home again Sunday against Utica at 1 p.m.
