ITHACA, N.Y. -- Host Ithaca outscored Nazareth 12-0 in game one and 9-1 in game two to take both games of Sunday's Empire 8 doubleheader. The Golden Flyers' lone run was scored by freshman Rebecca Sadler, who scored after hitting a single in the fifth inning.

Following the losses, Nazareth drops to 3-19 overall and 0-6 in conference games. The Bombers improve to 18-6 overall and 6-2 in Empire 8 contests.

In game one, Ithaca's Allison Greaney pitched a five-hit shutout for her sixth victory of the season. The Golden Flyers received two hits from freshman Kasey Pollot and one hit apiece from sophomore Jennifer Durso, and Claire Campbell and Sadler.

In the first inning, Pollot advanced to second after a lead-off single, but was thrown out trying to steal third. The Golden Flyers also reached second base in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, but Greaney escaped each inning without allowing a run from scoring position.

Junior Kelly Kocher started game one for Nazareth and allowed eight runs on nine hits in three innings to Ithaca's powerful attack. Kocher finished with one strikeout. Junior Casey Mathers relieved Kocher and finished with four runs allowed on two hits in one inning of action. The Golden Flyers' defense finished with five errors, which provided Ithaca extra opportunities to build its lead.

In game two, the Bombers opened a 4-0 lead over the course of the first four innings before Sadler's run in the fifth inning. After sophomore Mandy Weakley advanced to first on a wild pitch, Sadler singled to move Weakley to second. Freshman  Sarah Cipperly then singled to left field to load the bases with no outs to give Nazareth hope of rallying. Ithaca's defense, however, tightened. The Golden Flyers hit three consecutive groundouts, and only Sadler was able to cross the plate. After recording a force out to prevent Weakley from scoring, Sadler scored on an RBI groundout by Pollot. Ithaca ended the inning with a groundout by freshman Kailey Ritch.

The Bombers hit two homeruns to build their lead and secure the victory. Jennifer Biondi connected on a solo shot in the fourth inning and Jackie Branco hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning to secure Ithaca's victory.

Mathers pitched 5.2 innings in game two with nine runs allowed on 12 hits and one strikeout. Only four of the runs, however, were earned runs as errors also doomed Nazareth in game two as the Golden Flyers committed three errors. Britt Lillie pitched a complete game for Ithaca and tallied seven strikeouts. Nazareth also had five hits in the second game. Cipperly finished with two hits while Campbell, Sadler, and Weakley each finished with one.

The Golden Flyers travel to Keuka Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader.
