POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Nazareth defeated New Paltz 3-1 in the first day of the UVC Crossover tournament. Nazareth, ranked #2, won the match against 15th ranked New Paltz in four sets. The scores were 25-20, 25-18, 25-27, 25-20. Nazareth's overall record improves to 18-3 (6-0 in the UVC), while New Paltz's overall record drops to 11-9 (2-5 in the UVC).
Senior Hans Schroeder led the Golden Flyers with 14 kills, six digs, and two assisted blocks. Senior Brian Bunch closely followed Schroeder with 13 kills, four digs, and two assisted blocks. Senior Will Siwy tallied 10 kills and a match-high five assisted blocks. Sophomore EJ Wells-Spicer contributed 40 assists to the Golden Flyers' win, while sophomore Robert Kraft was able to secure two service aces for Nazareth. Sophomore Dan Mowery recorded a match-high eight digs.
New Paltz's Keith MacDonald rivaled Schroeder with 14 kills and seven digs, while Andrew Cassius recorded a match-high 41 assists and six digs.
The Golden Flyers will soar against SUNYIT and Vassar tomorrow in day two of the UVC Crossover at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
