IRVING, Texas -- Nazareth scored seven of the first eight goals of the game Tuesday and went on to easily defeat Birmingham Southern in a non-conference women's lacrosse game, 20-6, at the University of Dallas.
Sophomores
Alyssa Johnston and
Erinn Wood each scored four goals and added three assists as Nazareth improved to 3-1. Birmingham-Southern, in its third season of intercollegiate play, dropped to 2-2.
Wood scored for Nazareth just :52 into the game, but the Panthers tied the score less than a minute later on a free-position goal by Ashley Johnson. Nazareth then rattled off the next six goals to take control with Wood completing the run with a pair of unassisted scores to give the Golden Flyers a 7-1 lead.
After two goals by the Panthers' Chelsea Van Voorhis, Nazareth continued to extend its lead until the score reached 14-4 before halftime. Johnston had three of her goals in the first half while sophomore
Megan Cregan and senior
Michelle Cook each scored twice. Freshman
Kelsey McNaboe also netted her first career goal.
Nazareth also scored the first four goals of the season half, including two by freshman
Amy McIntosh. Johnston also contributed a pair of assists and sophomore
Leah Cronister completed the onslaught with her first career goal with 6:00 left.
Freshman
Tara Prosak (4 saves) played the first half in goal and sophomore
Shelby Robinson (6 saves) played the second half.
Nazareth plays again Thursday against Sewanee, Tenn. at 11 a.m.
