Billy Gimello banged out a match-high 16 kills and sophomore setter
EJ Wells-Spicer had 51 assists Wednesday as host Nazareth rallied for a four-set men's volleyball victory over D'Youville. Scores were 22-25, 29-27, 25-12, 25-17.
Nazareth, ranked fourth nationally in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, improved to 8-2 overall. D'Youville is 6-7.
Gimello's 16 kills came against just three hitting errors in 24 attempts for a .542 percentage. He also contributed seven digs and three solo blocks. Wells-Spicer's 51 assists were a season-high. He also had two kills in three attempts and had a solo block on the decisive point in the second set as Nazareth won 29-27 after trailing 22-19.
Nazareth had 13 total blocks and just 14 hitting errors, including none in the last two sets. Sophomore
Rob Kraft had 11 kills in 16 swings for a .688 percentage and senior
Hans Schroeder added 10 kills and a solo block.
Senior Brett Peters led the Spartans with 12 kills and sophomore Jay Senozetnik had 30 assists.
Nazareth returns to action this weekend for the Golden Flyer Invitational, featuring five nationally ranked teams. Nazareth plays Thiel and 10th-ranked Rivier on Friday at 4 and 8 p.m. respectively and 15th-ranked New Paltz and third-ranked UC Santa Cruz Saturday.
