Nazareth downs Elmira, 81-50

ELMIRA, NY - Nazareth downed Elmira 81-50 in men's basketball Saturday afternoon.  With the win the Golden Flyers improve to 12-8, 5-6 in the Empire 8 while Elmira falls to 1-20, 0-12 in the Empire 8.

Nazareth had five players score in double figures.  Jason Corletta led the way with 18 points after going 8-for-11 from the field and a perfect 2-for-2 from the line. He also had a team-high seven rebounds. 

Also scoring in double digits was Dan Waldbillig and Tyshun Stephens with 16 each, Greg Lothridge with 12 and Phil Scaffidi with 10.  Lothridge also finished with two blocks and Scaffidi had three steals and four assists.

Corletta gave the Golden Flyers an early 4-0 lead in the first half with back-to-back field goals and Nazareth would never trail in the game.  The Soaring Eagles trailed Nazareth by 11 at the end of the half, 41-30.

The Golden Flyers went on a 16-5 run in the middle of the second half to take a commanding 29 point lead, 71-42 with 9:26 left to go in the game.  Nazareth's largest lead of the afternoon was 35 points, 81-46 with 1:44 left.

Nazareth shot 56 percent (33 for 59) from the field and out rebounded Elmira 44-24.

The Golden Flyers will face three of the top four teams in the Empire 8 starting with Stevens on February 11 and Hartwick on February 12 before returning home to face St. John Fisher on February 15.
