Wyant places 3rd in 400-meters

CANTON, N.Y. -- Sophomore Katie Wyant turned in a third-place finish Saturday in the 400-meter dash to lead Nazareth during the second day of competition at the NYSCTC Championships at St. Lawrence University.

Nazareth finished in seventh place in the two-day, 10-team event with 28 points. Nazareth finished 10th in the men's competition with 11 points.

Wyant improved upon her preliminary time as she ran :62.50 in the 400. She also competed in the 800-meter run and finished seventh in 2:28.71. She was followed closely in that event by sophomore Kelsey Mash, who placed eighth in 2:29.12.

In other events, senior Kristi Custer was third in the triple jump with a distance of 35 feet, 10 inches and sophomore Lauren Jamieson was 10th in the mile (5:34.25) and 12th in the 1,000-meter run (3:20.74). Nazareth's 4 x 800-meter relay team of Katie Mutter, Bethany Althaus, Kirsten Schoenborn and Sarah Wilcox# was seventh in 10:59.63.

In the men's competition, freshman Jake Lafaver was fourth in the 400-meter dash in :51.43. He also finished 12th in the 800-meter run in 2:08.34. Junior Dan Polino placed 13th in the triple jump with a leap of 40 feet.
