POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Nazareth secured two more men's volleyball wins Saturday as the top-ranked Golden Flyers finished in first place at the Vassar Invitational. The Golden Flyers improved to 15-3 overall after sweeping Vassar and Johnson & Wales in three sets each. Against Vassar, Nazareth won by scores of 26-24, 25-22, 25-21. Scores vs. Johnson & Wales were 25-20, 25-11, 25-14.
Combined with Friday's three-set win over Lasell, Nazareth went 3-0 in the two-day event and now has won six straight matches. Junior outside hitter
Billy Gimello was named tournament MVP as he delivered 16 kills with just two hitting errors in 25 attempts against J&W. Senior
Ellis Walsh also represented Nazareth on the all-tournament team after posting six kills in nine swings.
Nazareth hit .444 as a team against J&W, aided by sophomore
Connor Ecklund amassing 32 assists. Senior
Chris Mendez also had six kills and
Sam Guba had nine digs.
Against Vassar, Gimello had 10 kills in 21 attempts for a .429 percentage. He also had nine digs. Senior
Hans Schroeder had 11 kills in 20 attempts and Walsh had 10 kills in 15 attempts.
Sophomore setter
EJ Wells-Spicer had 31 assists and eight digs.
The Golden Flyers return to action Tuesday for a United Volleyball Conference match at home against Hilbert at 7 p.m.
