Nazareth rallies past Morrisville

Golden Flyers take on Stevens Saturday

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth rallied from an early deficit to outscore Morrisville, 4-1, in a non-conference field hockey match Wednesday.

The Golden Flyers used three second-half goals to snap a 1-1 tie and to improve their overall record to 6-11. Morrisville dropped to 1-17.

Morrisville's Sarah Angerer scored early in the first half to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead, but Nazareth got the equalizer less than five minutes before halftime as junior Tessa Knapp scored her seventh goal of the season with an assist from junior Lindsey Smith.

In the second half, Nazareth outshot Morrisville 15-4 with senior Maria Martini scoring the go-ahead goal in the 31st minute off an assist from junior Kailee O'Hara. Smith and Knapp combined for Nazareth's third goal five minutes later. Then O'Hara closed out the scoring with her seventh goal of the season with Knapp assisting again.

Nazareth used both of its freshman goalie with Shannon Winney and Sophia Rhoades each making two saves.

The Golden Flyers travel to Utica Saturday to compete as the third seed for the Empire 8 Conference Tournament. The Golden Flyers play second-seeded Stevens at 1:30 p.m. Top-seeded Utica hosts Washington & Jefferson in the other first-round matchup. The championship game is Sunday at 12 p.m.
